About Jill Dobbie

I'm Jill Dobbie from Yoga From The Heart Dumfries. I have practiced yoga since my teens, but not till my mid 40's did I train to be a yoga teacher at Mandala Yoga Ashram in South Wales (2015-2017) An experience which has been life changing.

Mandala Yoga Ashram Yoga Teaching Diploma level course is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY). I am also insured by the BWY.

I come from a health background having worked as a registered nurse for 18 years in both acute and community settings.

I am passionate about the health benefits of yoga for both mental and physical health. Yoga helps to integrate the body, mind and spirit  through physical practices (asanas), breath awareness and breathing practices (pranayama), meditation ( dhyana) , and relaxation practices such as yoga nidra.

In November 2019 I trained with The Yoga in Healthcare Alliance to deliver their 10 week Yoga4Health programme.

In July 22 I started a 20 week Ayurveda Therapist course ( Level 1 ) with Dr Sharma at the Ayuskama Ayurveda Institute, Dharamshala , India.

Yoga for All

Chair yoga at The Granary   March 2019

I am trained to teach adults , my classes are for people aged 16 +.

I offer a welcoming , safe space to practice yoga with others. The classes are non competitive with each person encouraged to work to their own ability. Yoga can be adapted to suit people of all ages. Chair yoga is especially suited and adapted for the elderly or people with any physical limitations.

In January 2016 I started my first yoga class at the retirement flats where my mum lives. The class is still going strong with around 14 + residents enjoying an hour of yoga followed by coffee and cake each Wednesday morning.  Some of the participants are in their 90's !

I currently teach 4 yoga classes a week.  I live stream some of these classes on Zoom/

In Summer 2022 I was asked to share a block of 4 yoga classes at Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park for unpaid Carers of adults. I've been asked back again in Summer 2023 !

I have also shared chair yoga with local Alzheimer Scotland groups in Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Eccelfechan and Thornhill.

I have taught yoga to NHS staff at D&GRI as part of a Winter Well-being initiative 2018-19  and now have recorded yoga and relaxation sessions for NHS D&G staff , links to these practices on you tube were sent out on the daily briefing to staff on 5th June 2020

I am grateful to be part of a lovely yoga community in Dumfries and Galloway, with so  many inspiring yoga teachers offering classes, workshops , and retreats.

I recommend a visit to Mandala Yoga Ashram . They offer retreats and courses as well as a 2 year teacher training course . For more information- https://www.mandalayogaashram.co.uk/
